Whistler Summer Activities

With the cold and chilly hands of winter looming just around the corner, your skin is facing an inevitable condition: dry skin. The change in temperatures, decreased humidity, and dry air, can rob your skin’s natural moisture levels, leaving behind dry and itchy patches on your face. Dry skin leaves you susceptible to wrinkling! This can be avoided by following a few skin care tips which will protect your skin from the harsh weather conditions of winter.

Moisturize

You need to keep your skin moisturized throughout the year. As soon as you exit the shower, apply a layer of moisturizer. This will trap the moisture on your skin, and leave it feeling soft. There are different types of moisturizers on the market based on skin types. If you have sensitive skin, avoid buying creams which have lanolin oils and fragrances as these can cause breakouts. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin are known skin hydrators. At the store, speak to the cosmetician or pharmacist if you are unsure about which product to purchase.

Apply Sunscreen

People often skin the sunscreen during the winter months, thinking that since there are reduced sunlight hours, the same must be also true about UVA/UVB rays. However, sunburns can occur in the winter too. Ultraviolet radiation is present all year round, and can have detrimental effects on your skin, regardless of the season. Even during the winter time, each time you head outside, you must apply a moisturizer that has a sun protection factor in it. An SPF of 15 or higher is recommended by most dermatologists. Do not forget to take your sunglasses and hat too.

Wash Your Face Correctly

There is a proper technique to washing your face.

Washing it too rigorously or too lightly will not prove to be beneficial for your skin. When you scrub too hard, it will strip away the natural moisture of your skin. Even applying a harsh cleanser will incur the same effect. During winters, experts recommend using a gentle cleanser,  that is creamy in texture such as Olay’s Total Effects 2-in-1 anti-Aging Nourishing Cream Cleanser. After applying the cleanser, apply lukewarm water to remove the product and then pat your skin dry.

Drink Up

Although science has yet to prove that drinking water reduces wrinkles, it certainly does not hurt! Each time you consume water, it increases blood flow to your skin, which creates a better complexion. It is important to maintain a water balance in the body, which is why it is recommended that individual intake of water, should be around 1.9 liters or 8 ounces per day.

Increase Indoor Moisture

Dry air in the home can also negatively impact your skin. Turn on the humidifier in your house at night, to maintain moisture levels. Your skin will thank you in the morning!
